Abstract #121881

Common elements in the public health preparation for and response to both natural and man-made disasters

Kaye Bender, RN, PhD, FAAN, University of Mississippi Medical Center, School of Nursing, Professor and Dean, 2500 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39216, 601-984-6220, kbender@son.umsmed.edu

There are common elements present in the public health preparation for and response to both natural and man-made disasters. Those elements, once in place and demonstrated to be efficient, can be deployed for any type of disaster response. Investing in effective public health emergency preparedness strategies and interventions can positively affect the outcomes of any disaster.
