Leading the Change Process for a Healthy School Environment: State Action Makes A Difference!

State agencies have a unique role in helping districts implement local wellness policies. Federal law requires local policies but does not establish an infrastructure for implementation. One state's experience of using a state task force report on student nutrition and physical activity for state legislation to establish infrastructure is described.
