This presentation will provide an overview of the Public Health Response during a large scale public health emergency. This is a challenging time for all personnel responsible for planning and responding to man made or natural events that may sicken, injure or kill large numbers of the population. There will be an overview of the Physician's role in planning and responding to large scale public health emergencies. Specific issues discussed will be: what planning responsibilities should involve a physician, what role does a physician assume during the response, and how does a physician participate within Unified Incident Command. Identify current critical issues related to surge capacity: including expanding the definition of Public Health responders, assessing response times, and defining critical capabilities at the local community level. There will be a discussion about specific Public Health events and some lessons learned.
