As an elective and cosmetic procedure coverage for LASIK surgery is limited. The study describes the experiences of patients who had LASIK surgery as part of their vision care benefits from a major vision care PPO. A 20 question survey contained information on patients' previous eyewear history, reasons for seeking treatment, who recommended the surgery, out of pocket expenses, post-operative status, adverse symptoms, functionality and satisfaction with the procedure. Respondents reported their experience and a severity index with pain, redness, swelling, halos, glare nad dry eyes. Subjective visual improvements with near vision, distance, night vision, comfort and overall performance is reported. The number of post operative visits and days off from school or work was collected. Overall 95% of all patients indicated they were generally satisfied with the procedure. Referral from friends and family is, in large part, what drives demand.
