Identifying Health Risks that Impact Immigrants and Refugees
Public health professionals recognize the importance of identifying health risks that impact populations as a critical step in the development of policies and programs to promote health and health care access for immigrants and refugees. The papers in this session cover a wide range of topics, including correlates of depression, causes of death among Hispanic immigrants and their US-born counterparts, and health issues and status among certain immigrant communities.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, participants will be able to: 1. compare the mortality experiences of immigrant and US born young adult Hispanics; 2. discuss research findings related to mental health issues; 3. describe risk factors that make immigrant populations vulnerable and specific diseases for which health service use is higher among immigrants.
