Issues of Security and Political Context in Addressing the Needs of Refugees and Immigrants
This session examines the role of political context and location in addressing health issues in vulnerable refugee and immigrant communities. Papers will discuss a variety of issues including the assessment of torture claims, the impact of 9/11, and critical health care issues for refugee and immigrant communities in international settings.
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) will be able to: 1. recognize the influence of political context on the health of refugee and immigrant populations; 2. identify critical health services that should be available in humantarian emergencies; 3. describe the ways in which security and political issues affect health and well-being of refugee and immigrant populations. ways to address political context in the implementation of health services and programs.
