Consistent with our mission to connect issues of social justice and public health in our lives and in the work that we do, the Spirit of 1848 invites abstracts presenting ideas for teaching activism in public health to learners in diverse settings: at professional schools, in colleges, or in community-based sites. Due to the success of "Teaching activism for public health" Parts 1 and 2 at past APHA meetings and requests for an encore, this year's session is "Teaching Activism for Public Health, Part 3". Abstracts are invited covering the following range of topics: (a) individual courses and/or techniques that have been employed to successfully teach activism; (b) curricular models for teaching activism, especially curriculum-wide efforts to integrate concerns about social justice & public health; (c) pedagogical theories advancing activism; (d) teaching activism around “evidence” (the theme of the 2005 conference). This session will be in Tuesday morning 8:30 to 10:00 am APHA time slot.
Learning Objectives: 1)Learn about diverse approaches to teaching activism in public health courses 2)Learn about diverse approaches to teaching links between evidence & activism
