Children and Young Adults as Health Education Opportunities
As target populations for health education and health promotion activities, children and young adults present specific challenges and opportunities. The panelists in this session will describe studies and interventions designed to understand adolescents' perceptions of physical activity and opportunities for sexual intimacy, as well as a program to prevent tobacco use among Asian and Pacific Islander middle school youth. This session will present the importance of these target populations and the implications for health education of working with these groups.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Identify characteristics of children and young adults that provide special challenges and opportunities for health education interventions;
  2. Describe assessments of children's and young adults' perceptions of phyiscal activity; and
  3. Understand how parents and schools can and do influence adolescents' sexual activity.
