This session will present emerging, timely, and innovative research on issues significant to the health of the Asian and Pacific Islander American community. Among the highlights to be presented will be informative prevention research on youth violence in schools, a unique study examining the cultural context of Asian immigrant families in decision-making about home health care, a study that reveals significant ethnic differences of cancer screening behaviors among Asian American subgroups, and lessons learned in conducting surveys that include a translation process. | |||
Learning Objectives: 1. Learn about promising public health research that advances that health status of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans; 2. Understand the implications of culture and cultural norms and/or beliefs upon the health and safety of youth and the elderly; and, 3. Discover methods and asssessment tools for prevention and community research for Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. | |||
