In this session, contributors to War and Public Health (Oxford University Press, 1997; APHA, Softcover Updated Edition, 2000) and others will present papers on the impact of war on public health and on actions available to public health workers to help prevent war and its public health impacts. Presentations will address the health impact of specific recent wars on military and civilian populations, including a discussion of torture in Iraq and elsewhere; the role of physicians in the military; new threats related to nuclear weapons; and the military policy of the United States. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the end of the session participants will be able to recognize the impact of war on public health and identify actions public health workers can use to prevent war and its public health impacts. | |||
