Over the last several decades, there has been a growing recognition of faith communities as key public health partners. This is based on shifts in the role of public health as well as public health science-based approaches associated with behavior change, disparity elimination, social determinants, community capacity, social capital, and the social-ecological conceptual framework. There are challenges and opportunities in preserving the appropriate government relationships while maximizing the potential contributions faith communities can make to the health of communities. This panel of legal and public health experts will address the history of these relationships, guiding legal parameters, and optimal partnership practices.
Learning Objectives: Participants will be able to: 1. Describe "best practices" parameters of partnership relationships that include faith-based organizations and government partners 2. Understand the principles of the First Amendment and its historical value. 3. Report an increase in confidence in assuring the optimal role of faith-based organizations engagement in contributing to the health of the public.
