The 3 C’s: Emerging Issues in Professional Competencies, Credentialing and Certification
This session will focus on key issues integral to advancing initiatives of professional competencies, credentialing and certification. Learn how evidence-based workforce research has demonstrated the individual and organizational benefits of public health certification and credentialing. Moreover, paneists will discuss proven strategies on implementing competency-based training plans, including training for emergency preparedenss, for individual public health workers, local health departments, regions, and occupational groups. Finally, research outcomes on a competency-basedmodel for health educator competencies will be presented.
Learning Objectives: 1. Discuss the value of evidence-based research on the public health workforce for improving individual and organizational capacity; 2. Identify training needs in emergency preparedness of state public health workforce personnel and strategies for responding with appropriate training plans; and, 3. Recognize issues in different competency-based models as applied to national health indicators
