Cancers of the oral cavity and pharynx account for 2% to 4% of all cancers diagnosed in the United States. Oral pharyngeal cancer remains the sixth most common type among U.S. white males and the fourth most common among African-American males. Approximately 30,000 new cases and more than 8,000 deaths occur annually. Most oral cancers are responsive to early treatment and the mouth is readily accessible. Regular oral cancer assessments are imperative for early diagnosis especially for individuals who are at high risk. | |||
