Health Literacy and Health Communication
Statement of Purpose and Institute Overview:
The purpose of this institute is fourfold: foster awareness of the health literacy objective and health literacy action plan of Healthy People 2010; increase understanding of the practice recommendations of the IOM report Health Literacy: A prescription to end confusion; develop skills for integrating literacy skills and cultural components with health communication efforts; review and augment existing protocols for improved health communication in care settings. These objectives will be met through a sequence of workshops each of which will integrate a didactic presentation with hands on learning experiences.
