Statement of Purpose and Institute Overview:
The purpose of this institute is to learn how to evaluate public health services in applied settings, so that client outcomes can be summarized rapidly and used to inform steps for improving practices, as well as identify which are the best practices, based on sound evidence. Specific tools will be presented, including a more efficient outcome assessment approach, data entry spreadsheets that expedite data entry and validation, and data analysis spreadsheets that immediately convert data into information. The outcome assessment approach eliminates the need for controlled research studies and sophisticated statistical analyses. Suggestions offered for how to apply continuous quality improvement techniques will move your organization along the path to adopting best practices, whether you are implementing unfamiliar evidence-based practices in your setting, or trying to identify which practices among those already being employed are working. Examples of applications of this evaluation approach will be described to illustrate its effectiveness.
