Community Health Assessment: Methods And Applications
The assessment of community environmental health is a core component of Environmental Public Health Tracking activities. This session will detail important advances in models and methods to respond more appropriately and effectively to local concerns about environmental health. Presentations will feature findings from a workshop on environmental contributors to health disparities and environmental health indicator development; a model for developing local capacity for coordinating and conducting outbreak/health hazard investigations; new thinking on the socio-geographical definition of ‘neighborhood’ for units of analysis; results from a national survey to assess state public health agency capacity to respond to non-communicable disease clusters; and an integrated analysis approach for responding to local cancer clusters.
Learning Objectives: At the end of the session, the participant will: 1) be able to describe new techniques, models and approaches for enhancing local and state capacity for responding to local concerns about environmental health; and 2) learn about current state public health capacity for responding to non-communicable disease clusters.
