Health Communication and Bioterrorism
The prospect of intentional release of smallpox, anthrax or other bioterrorism agents is a cause for great concern among the public and for public health professionals. Careful planning and emergency preparedness are important strategies for managing this threat, but these measures may fail if not accompanied by effective communication. The speakers in this session will present various programs and strategies for communicating with the public about both risk and prevention of bioterrorism and other emergencies.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
  1. Describe the principles of effective risk communication; and
  2. Explain effective methods for communicating with the public about bioterrorism and emergency preparedness.
