Session: Assessing Barriers to Healthful Behaviors
4333.0: Tuesday, December 13, 2005: 4:30 PM-6:00 PM
Oral
Assessing Barriers to Healthful Behaviors
Health promotion interventions frequently falter because the intervention designs fail to take into account challenges the target population may face in adopting the desired behaviors. The five presentations in this session address various health problems but each focus on particular barriers or perceived barriers to improving those health conditions. Chronic disease prevention behaviors, such as screening and physical activity, provide important and relevant examples for discussion.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Identify specific barriers to healthy behaviors;
  2. Describe health promotion interventions targeting African-American adults; and
  3. Discuss particular factors that impact individuals' health behavior.
