The threat to health security from intentional and unintentional disasters and emerging infectious diseases is growing. Well-trained health professionals are a critical component to disaster preparedness and response. This session will examine hospital characteristics for improving terrorism preparedness, the willingness of emergency personnel to respond to potential terrorist incidents, interdisciplinary approaches for training, new organizational models for emergency response, and preparedness planning for the World Trade Center. | |||
Learning Objectives: Identify the hospital characteristics associated with greater preparedness for terrorism in the areas of training and drilling. Identify the benefits of using an interdisciplinary approach to training health professional students. Describe the willingness of emergency medical technicians to respond to potential terrorist incidents. Describe a new Incident Command System organizational model for emergency response. Describe emergency preparedness planning for the World Trade Center. | |||
