Mental Health and Substance Abuse: Relationship with Injuries
This session will examine the mental health issues surrounding intimate partner violence and violence against women, post-traumatic stress disorder among abused women, the role of depression in rural injuries, the role of mental health responders in disasters, and interventions for screening impaired drivers.
Learning Objectives: Identify the techniques for ascertaining the prevalence of physical and sexual violence among adult women. Articulate the prevalence of intimate partner violence-related post-traumatic stress disorder. Identify the role of depression in rural health injury. Understand the role and needs of mental health responders in emergent disasters. Understand the key elements of screening & brief intervention for risky drinking in an ED setting.
