Voices from the storm: Responding to the needs of PWA/HIV after Katrina
On August 29, 2005 Katrina hit the shores of the US causing damage beyond anyone's expectations. The scores of pictures depicting the disaster could not truly capture the full impact of the devastation. An estimated 7,400 people were evacuated and displaced throughout the US from New Orleans alone. Among the survivors were people living with HIV/AIDS who had to learn a new way of surviving the aftermath. This late-breaking session, Voices from the Storm, will feature panelists who survived the disaster, health officials who are managing the recovery process, and health advocates who are witnessing systems having to adapt to a new demand for services. This session promises to be thought provoking, insightful, and a demand for action that can be a lesson for AIDS advocates.
