Injury Surveillance and Data Issues Posters
The burden of injuries the United States is staggering. There are over 150,000 injuries deaths and 1.8 million hospitalizations each year and the societal cost of injury morbidity and mortality is estimated at $260 billion a year. Injury surveillance systems and injury data are needed to track this burden. Furthermore, it is important to highlight unique surveillance systems, evaluate and improve existing systems, and review measures for injury prevention priorities. This poster session will provide information about several different surveillance systems and data collection efforts.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this session the participants should be able to 1. recognize the importance of the unique surveillance system as well as describe how surveillance systems can be used to identify injury trends; 2. review and discuss optimal measures of injury prevention priority; and 3. discuss how the changes in coding and classification of injury impact work in the field of injury prevention.
