This session is the fourth in a five-part series on the challenges program leaders face in designing and implementing effective strategies for scaling up healthcare interventions and services in resource poor settings. This session will focus on the challenges for scaling up interventions for malaria, which remains one of the biggest health threats in the developing world. Leading experts in malaria will discuss key programmatic issues and challenges in malaria prevention and treatment interventions. Presentations on malaria prevention interventions may focus on the socio-economic impact of malaria in Africa; ITNs, and indoor residual spraying. Presentations on malaria treatment interventions may highlight challenges related to drug resistance; the adoption of the latest WHO guidelines for treatment; treatment-seeking behavior; and treatment of severe cases. Presenters may also touch on the hot topic of the effects of malaria in pregnancy, from the use of ITNs to implementation of intermittent prevention treatment measures. Overall, the session will provide a comprehensive overview of the implementation issues in scaling up malaria interventions. | |||
