We live in a data rich age, yet remain information poor. Internet technologies promise to empower knowledge workers, but many remain confused or overwhelmed by the glowing screens facing them. After more than a decade of significant technological advance in web-based data access, some issues of data structure are becoming settled as developers and users strive to find common ground. At the same time, changes in technology at the point of delivery-the common browser-offer new methods of interaction with data that can be as rich and responsive as a desktop application. These and other developments alter the nature of the interaction as users work to understand how to connect in an evolving context to form new types of communities. This session will examine the issues of structural presentation of information on the web, the emergence of new visualization technologies to interact with online data, and the online social connections the current environment offers. The session will explore the emerging development of standard rubrics of data presentation and interaction, and give attendees an opportunity to peek over the horizon at what is coming next. | |||
