Injuries are a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. While progress has been made in reducing the burden of injuries worldwide, injuries are still a global public health concern. This session will discuss the pattern of injury morbidity and mortality in international communities as well as the issues surrounding injury surveillance and prevention efforts in these communities.
Learning Objectives: By the end of this session the participants should be able to 1. describe the pattern of injury morbidity and mortality in lesser developed countries and compare these to more developed countries; 2. articulate some of the challenges to setting up a surveillance system in a developing country; and 3. recognize barriers to injury prevention programs in developing countries.
