Stressing the practical application of an exceptional education to the complex challenges facing public health professionals today, BUSPH has grown tremendously in recent years with more than 4,000 alumni, 140 full-time faculty, and students from over 40 countries. In keeping with the School's service-oriented philosophy, each department combines research and academics with a practicum requirement, resulting in a rigorous, well-rounded curriculum enhanced by work experience in a public health environment.

Our practice-based learning model sets us apart from other institutions. We complement the quality of our faculty and diversity of our academic programs with hands-on experience that has a direct and positive impact on the people we seek to help. Ours is not an ivory-tower institution; rather, we apply our skills and scholarship to real-world problems, protecting and improving the health of individuals, families, and communities across the world as we continue to learn from and educate one another.

Through longstanding collaborations with such institutions as the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Boston Public Health Commission, and the Veterans Affairs Administration; and international alliances with the Red Cross, the Peace Corps, and foreign governments, our students, faculty, and alumni draw on their own diverse backgrounds to carry out the School's mission in a variety of settings.
