Can Alzheimer's disease be prevented? A 2006 research update

Thanks to lifestyle changes and medical advances, the incidence of major chronic diseases – including heart disease, stroke, and several kinds of cancer – has declined in recent years. But what about Alzheimer's disease? Does cutting-edge research offer hope for reducing the risk of cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer's? This workshop will explore the most important international studies on Alzheimer's prevention. It will highlight the positive role of lifestyle factors, including physical activity, mental engagement, and diet. It will also clarify the deleterious effect of conditions such as diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. And finally, just for good measure, it will debunk the myth of the crossword puzzle panacea.
