In 2004, Health Net of California, Inc., one of the largest Managed Care Organizations in California, launched a multi-component Weight Management - Be in Charge! SM program created especially to meet the needs of overweight children and adolescents. Weight Management - Be in Charge! SM is available to Health Net's Medi-Cal (Medi-caid) and Healthy Families Program (HFP) members. This program includes individualized telephonic nutrition support, health education materials, group-level support through the Weight Watchers® Program and a new home based 5-week module targeting the whole family. Health Net provides, these services at no cost to the member. Health Net developed program criteria and systems to include the role of physicians in addressing this epidemic.
