The discussant will reflect upon the importance of a health and human rights framework for understanding the politics of public health data and for improving public health research and monitoring of health inequities, in light of the presentations provided by the session participants.

Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of this presentation (discussant), the participant (learner) in this session will be able to

• Explain why a health and human rights perspective is important for understanding the politics of public health data
• Articulate the common points and differences in the session presentations on how human rights can inform public health research and monitoring of population health.
