Development of a health promotion and wellness certification program

This session will describe the development and content of a wellness certification program. A postgraduate health promotion and wellness program has been developed for doctors of chiropractic to facilitate standardization of life style counseling of patients. Four 12 hour modules will be coupled with out of class hours to present the following topics: wellness promotion through screening and risk assessment, counseling for lifestyle modification, nutrition, posture and spinal health, physical and mental fitness, and recreational and occupational performance enhancement. Eight instructors with graduate degress and specialty training are involved in the implementation of this program. More than just disease prevention, this program seeks to actively engage patients as partners in health promotion and wellness. This presentation will review the teaching methods proposed for this series of educational series, featuring innovative active learning methods and evidence-based teaching strategies.
