Spanish speaking immigrant populations are a typically underserved group with a high level of need for both reproductive health education and services. Traditional outreach methods often fail with this population due to cultural barriers that can be harder to surmount than any language barrier. Planned Parenthood Golden Gate implemented an extremely effective outreach program that employs educators/promotores from within the community to provide educational workshops on health and sexuality and information on reproductive health services. The program was recently expanded to include outreach to day laborers, a transient population at high risk for STI's.
Dian Harrison, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Golden Gate, one of the largest Planned Parenthood affiliates in the country, will share best practices for designing outreach programs and creating partnerships to meet the reproductive health needs of this population.
