Learning from Workers: Reports from OHIP's 3rd year interns

Gail Bateson, MS, OHIP, AOEC, 29 Ardmore Rd, Kensington, CA 94707, 510-525-6421, batesong@pacbell.net

Students participating in the third year of the Occupational Health Internship Program (OHIP) will present summaries of their projects from summer 2006. These projects are designed to educate students about occupational health issues from the perspective of workers. A participatory research model is often used, with an emphasis on experiential learning using worker interviews and jobsite tours. Final reports are designed to give back useful information to the group of workers. Typical projects explore hazards among low-wage immigrants employed in the service sector and others employed in health care, construction, and public service sectors. (Specific titles of projects and speakers can be provided at a later date.)
