This presentation is going to describe the particular journey towards quality taken by a university hospital and its satellite units. We follow the eight components of a complete quality process while building our systems. These are; Strategic plan: vision, mission, and plan of action, Top Management Commitment, Leadership, 100% Employee Involvement, Communications, Training, Measurement and Recognition, Gratitude & Celebration. The general objective is setting up a plan for CQI through the understanding of the production process using detailed step-by-step analysis, a transparent and measurable system, and a systematic approach to evaluating quality of care for the eight hospitals in the network. The specific objectives for CQI are to achieve employee satisfaction, information management infrastructure, medication processes, clinical documentation, and patient satisfaction. As a result of ongoing planning, measurement, and assessment, we have seen a marked increase in demand for our services. For instance in the main center, the patient visits rate is increased 223 % between years 1998 to 2004 and the continuous rise in bed occupancy rates (increased 101.9 % between years 1998-2004) has played a significant role in decisions to build new hospitals. Today, we continue to strive to advance the quality of our system through routine performance improvement assessments at each hospital. The most striking sign of our success is the rise in patient demand for BUH health care services. We started this journey with a single hospital in Ankara. In just 8 years, growing interest has led our organization to expand to all the main regions of the country.
