With the increasing demand to expand pediatric primary care interventions, to develop family-centered care, and to identify community-based and culturally responsive partners in care, these ideas ought to be integrated into all Maternal and Child Health training programs. A national collaborative of educators, parents, and residency program directors has developed a self-directed, interactive web-based curriculum to be used in Maternal and Child Health Training programs. The Pediatrics in Practice distance education site (www.pediatricsinpractice.org) features: 1) aTeaching Center, host to a faculty development course to increase MCH educator competency in teaching health promotion concepts (i.e., partnership building, communication, advocacy) through proven teaching strategies (i.e., role play, reflective exercise), and 2) a Learning Center, host to a 6-unit health promotion course, that is designed to increase student competency in health promotion.
This presentation will discuss interactive, task-oriented experiences for both educators and students in exploring this newly created health promotion curriculum featured in the Teaching and Learning Centers.
