Mr. Kassman studies the hazards to Bricklayers from exposure to silica. He also reports on the results of a survey of tradespeople, finding that 50% of apprentices and journeymen received little or no training related to silica He also found that 65 percent of the workers surveyed did not receive annual fit tests.

• Discuss the range of occupational safety and health issues, including human rights, that labor must study, in order to improve working conditions.
• Analyze and evaluate primary research being done by students at the National Labor College.
• Recognize the unique contribution of academic research done by rank-and-file union workers.
