At the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health (NLIRH), we believe that all Latinas, their families and their communities have the fundamental human right to access the full range of reproductive health care options and services. However, in order to improve the reproductive health outcomes of Latinas and to achieve our vision of a healthy and prosperous community, it is critical to lift up the voices, experiences and realities of our communities. These experiences need to shape and influence how we develop policy recommendations, conduct research and advance national and local campaigns that will, in the long-run, improve the reproductive health status of Latinas. NLIRH utilizes a reproductive justice model to develop policy recommendations and to organize and mobilize our communities. This model integrates both a human rights framework as well intimately connects reproductive health with broader social justice issues. This presentation will discuss the practical applications of utilizing this model in reproductive rights policy and advocacy work.
