Objectives: This study discusses the reach of the Communication for Healthy Living (CHL) project in Menya Governorate, and as trends in family planning and reproductive health indicators that occurred during the course of the implementation of the project. Data and Methods: We use data from the 2004 and 2005 waves of a panel survey conducted among married females and males in a randomly selected sample of households in 5 intervention villages and two control villages in Menya Governorate. Of the 4,239 married respondents interviewed in 2004 Menya Village Health Survey, 94% were re-interviewed in 2005. We use paired t-tests to analyze trends in key family planning and reproductive health indicators. Results: Preliminary findings show high levels of exposure to CHL project related activities. For example, in the 2005 survey 74.2% of women and 56.0% of men were exposed to family planning messages in the past 6 months. 38.3% of females and 23.5% of males reported seeing a project TV spot in the past year. During the intervention, use of modern contraceptives among married women increased from 43.5% in 2004 to 48.8% in 2005 (p<.001). Conclusions: The findings show that the CHL project reached a large share of its target population. During the course of the intervention, gradual improvements were observed in family planning and reproductive health.
