Kathy Greco, LMSW, CEAP and Richard F. Paul, MSW, CEAP. Health & Performance Solutions, ValueOptions, 433 River Street, Suite 200, Troy, NY 12180, 518/271-2981, kathleen.greco@valueoptions.com

This session will explore geodemographic segmentation systems and data mining techniques to identify the cultural, demographic, and attitude preferences of the multigenerational workforce. And in so doing, identify lifestyle, behavioral health and medical risk factors associated with employees. The presenters will discuss how this information influenced offering EAP services that reach employees for the first time with media, messages, and processes of care that match their preferences and problems including modifications to the current promotion and delivery of EAP services.

By using ValueOptions' database that includes socio-demographic and clinical service information from millions of client care episodes with geodemographic segmentation systems, ValueOptions has created EAP services that reach workers for the first time with media, messages, and processes of care that match their preferences and problems. ValueOptions has conducted a thorough review of mental health, substance abuse and employee assistance utilization for seventeen large employers. In reviewing this data, ValueOptions has explored the service utilization patterns of the general employee population. A further analysis of life style clustering and communication preferences allowed ValueOptions to develop workplace based tools to promote the EAP in the channels and with the messages that employees of the multigenerational workforce prefer. In addition, ValueOptions modified the initial intake process to better screen for substance abuse concerns and more effectively engage employees in substance abuse treatment. The overall targeted design of EAP promotional materials and improved intake assessment has resulted in improved substance abuse case finding and treatment linkages.
