Recognizing that much work has been done in the area of health service research in Sub-Sahara Africa, yet little of this appears in major US medical journals, our group is working on identifying and categorizing already existing sources for the purpose of increasing the audience that is reached. In analyzing these sources, we are seeking around 30 relatively recent articles that we consider highly relevant as well as of superior quality in both methodology and data use. Coming from a variety of backgrounds, our team is discussing, evaluating, and then collaboratively selecting these articles. We are developing tables to display our findings. By keeping our definition of health service research broad and looking at all of sub-Saharan Africa, we seek to target the widest possible range of interests and provide quality filtered suggested journals and individual articles. Our research aims at developing a overall statement concerning the status of health services research in sub-Saharan Africa. By recognizing the already existing body of work, we can better assess the areas needing further future research.
