Moacir Barbosa, Training and Capacity Building, The Medical Foundation, 95 Berkeley St., Boston, MA 02116, 617.451.0049, mbarbosa@tmfnet.org

Youth workers are Community Health Workers. Youth workers are individuals who work with or on behalf of youth to facilitate their personal, social and educational development, support healthy decision-making and enable them to gain a voice, influence and place in society as they make the transition from dependence to independence. Finding Our Strength is a workforce study focused primarily on the staff that support Boston's youth, young people aged 13 – 19. Finding Our Strength is a significant step in identifying and representing the needs, concerns and realities of youth workers. The analysis has policy and practice implications for providers of all types and for private and public sector agencies. The report informs providers, youth worker networks, advocates, policy and opinion leaders, institutions of higher education and the legislature on the issues and challenges facing youth work in Boston .
