The purpose of this presentation is to show how UN process indicators were used to track progress of maternal health intervention in public health system in India. Maternal Mortality ratio is very high in India. Maternal Mortality reduction is being actively pursued by both federal and state government. The earlier approach has not been successful in addressing reduction of maternal mortality and morbidity. In the absence of information about availability, use and quality of emergency Obstetric care corrective actions were not made. The progress of maternal health interventions can be monitor through impact or process indicators. The impact indicators show changes in a given event (such as maternal death), while UN process indicator show changes in the activity that lead to the event. In the state of Rajasthan, we revised existing MIS for reporting on UN process indicators. A systematic approach to revise MIS has demonstrated that good data collection system can be established in public systems which are ideally, economical and concise as well as clear and simple enough for staff to administer. The UNFPA –AMDD project was implemented since past 4 years in Rajasthan, India. We have been able to increase access to basic EmOC facility from 26 to 62 over 4 years. The met need of EmOC has also increased from more then 77% from 8.8% to 15.62% in 48 months. The project intervention is being upscale in the entire state.
