Anthony Rosner, PhD, LLD, Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research, 1330 Beacon Street, Suite 315, Brookline, MA 02446, 617-734-3397, rosnerfcer@aol.com
From its origin in 1944, FCER has grown into the largest and oldest granting agency that supports both research and postgraduate education pertaining to chiropractic healthcare worldwide. For the past 20 years, FCER has awarded nearly $11M in the form of grants, residencies, and fellowships to a broad array of professional schools, colleges and universities, and clinics and institutes.
FCER supports research in both the applied and basic sciences through both the external and internal review of grant applications submitted twice yearly. On an annual basis, the Foundation also grants approximately 6 fellowships and occasionally a residency. For the past 15 years, it has sponsored the International Conference on Spinal Manipulation [renamed the Conference on Chiropractic Research], providing both platform and poster presentations of the leading research pertaining to chiropractic.
Pilot studies from FCER can be linked to nearly $20M in federal funding of research from the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Agency for Health Research and Quality, and the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine at the NIH; previous federal funding supporting chiropractic research had been virtually nonexistent.
FCER maintains an extensive literature search service with access to both MANTIS and MEDLINE to provide the necessary documentation for any given subject. It also provides practitioners with newsletters, pamphlets, booklets and posters, providing a grants hotwire service to alert subscribers to funding opportunities in research.
