The choices we make every day of what to eat and how much to exercise play a vital role in how much energy we have, how healthy we are, and even how long we live. What decisions are consumers making about their diets? The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will share the results of the Health and Diet Survey: Dietary Guidelines Supplement conducted in collaboration between FDA and the Office of Disease Prevention and Heath Promotion (ODPHP). This survey was designed to determine Americans' attitudes, awareness, knowledge, and behaviors regarding various elements of nutrition and physical activity; and more. The session will also highlight the innovative delivery of information related to healthy eating and physical activity. Examples include: how the consumer publication, A Healthier You: Based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans was used as part of a local Wellness Program; implementation of GAME ON! The Ultimate Wellness Challenge, a unique activity for middle-school aged kids similar to an obstacle course with various stations, designed to challenge both the mind and the body; and, Helping Students Make Better Food Choices – a cafeteria-based nutrition promotion piloted in 5 Chicago-area schools. ODPHP has assembled a panel of select non-government and government experts to provide updates on new resources (e.g., Dietary Guidelines Toolkit for Health Professionals), and to address key ideas and activities that can be implemented by you!
