Recently the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) has expanded its data linkage program for its population-based surveys, such as the National Health Interview Survey (NHIS) and National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES), allowing for epidemiologic research that can advance our understanding of the multiple factors influencing population morbidity, disability, and mortality. Concurrent with this expansion is the development of new data access procedures designed to ensure participant confidentiality which provide new challenges for investigators who seek to utilize these important resources. This presentation will describe the new record linkage activities of NCHS, including methodological and data access procedures for users.
