Avedis Donabedian was the preeminent thinker and contributor to the conceptual and practical advances in the field of quality research during the formative years of the field of Quality Assurance. The 7th Annual Medical Care Section Donabedian Award will be presented to R. Health Palmer who will, in the tradition of Dr. Donabedian, present an innovative model for wedding quantitative and qualitative research design into quality improvement studies.
Dr. Palmer is Professor of Health Policy and Management Department of Health Policy and Management. Dr. Palmer's research focuses on evaluation and improvement of quality of health care, particularly in the ambulatory setting. She specializes in the development and evaluation of clinical performance measures and improvement programs and serves on several national advisory boards in this capacity. She is former editor of the International Journal for Quality in Health Care and co-authored, with Dr. Donabedian, a classic Quality Assurance book entitled Striving for Quality in Health Care: An Inquiry into Policy and Practice.
Dr. Schiff will draw upon the work of Drs. Palmer, Donabedian and Soumerai to develop the theme of innovative approaches to quality research design
