Despite the increased public attention given to health disparities issues in recent years, racial and ethnic minority groups continue to experience higher disease burden and lower quality of care for many health conditions compared to their white counterparts. This introductory presentation will assess the current state of the field in health disparities research, identifying both strengths and weaknesses in the current evidence base regarding disparities.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, participants will be able to (
• identify factors that contribute to disparities in health and health care across population groups defined by race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status; (
• assess organizational and administrative strategies for reducing health disparities; and (
• identify issues in need of further research to reduce health disparities.
