This presentation will provide an overview of the major international treaties addressing the vulnerable groups identified for this session-namely race, gender and religion. We will examine the origins of the right to health in international human rights documents as well as the so called non-discrimination clause which exists in all major human rights documents. Major international treaties such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights will be presented. Additionally treaties addressing specific vulnerable groups such as the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and the Convention on the Elimination of all forms for Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) will be presented with special attention to the clauses regarding health.
