Emergency medicine in the United States is plagued with many problems. Among these are the declining number of hospitals with emergency departments, increasing numbers of people seeking care in emergency departments, and the large number of uninsured people in the United States. This presentation by a past president of the Massachusetts Medical Society and a leading expert on emergency medicine in the United States will describe this crisis in detail and set forth ways of addressing these problems.
