Latino Population Human Rights issues
The protection offered by the Bill of Rights allows many to pursue a life where they can reach their maximum potential. As we become engrossed in this pursuit it is easy to overlook how the same system can infringe and not protect the rights of marginalized groups. This provision of equal rights for everyone must be enforced as it will guarantee that our own rights are never eroded. Violations are currently affecting segments of the Hispanic population. These issues include the interrogation of legal residents by immigration authorities, being accused of belonging to gangs, housing discrimination, employment abuses, unequal access to education and health services, and immigration policy. This session will cover significant issues facing Hispanics and human rights.
Learning Objectives: At the end of this presentation the learner will: 1. Describe a border community’s perceptions toward immigration enforcement. 2. Learn how to use mixed methods to develop an instrument to assess issues related to health and human rights. 3. Know the sources of work place stress and how they differ according to gender and immigrant status. Describe the psychosocial factors that contribute to poor health
