This session will focus on social epidemiology in minority populations. Presentations will cover topics such as racial discrimination and health, the effect of neighborhoods in minority health, social risk factors for hypertension, spirituality, as well as a presentation about neighborhood effects on health in Taiwan. | |||
Learning Objectives: At the conclusion of the session, the participant (learner) in this session will be able to: 1. Recognize the relationships between experienced discrimination due to race/ethnicity and coping strategies on health outcomes 2. Describe how perceived racial discrimination is related to neighborhood composition 3. Evaluate the social and environmental risk factors for hypertension from different perspectives 4. Understand whether neighborhood characteristics are associated with individual health in Taiwan 5. Describe the analytical methods to evaluate how the relationship between religious participation and physical health, mental health, and depression are modified by SES and race/ethnicity | |||
